Haines River Otter & Salmon Stream Walk

Follow a naturalist guide along Pirate Cove and Sawmill Creek where salmon spawn from July through September, attracting river otters, bears, eagles, and gulls. The flat, easy trail passes through coastal forest with interpretive stops explaining the salmon lifecycle and its importance to the ecosystem. This is a quiet, contemplative walk rather than a high-energy adventure. The trailhead is walkable from the cruise pier. The two-hour duration and easy terrain make this accessible to nearly everyone. Rubber boots are recommended when streams are high. This is one of the best free-range wildlife viewing opportunities in Southeast Alaska and an excellent value at this price point.
